Happy Monday, Runners! I can't believe there are only 21 days until the half marathon. My training plan has me running up to a 10 mile long run and this scares me. The half marathon is 13.1! My trainer says that I will be fine and the last 3 miles during the half marathon will come easily. I guess the adrenaline and training will kick in, but I still have my doubts and I want to try to hit 11 miles on my last long run before the big day. Any of you experienced half marathon runners out there, have any advice? Here's last week's recap:
Monday: 1 hr Pure Intensity Training class (cardio & weights)
Tuesday: I hr strength training with personal trainer
Wednesday: 3 miles on the treadmill (10:23 pace) & stretching
Thursday: 5 miles on the treadmill (10:24 pace) & stretching
Sunday: 9 miles outside (11:49 pace)
Total Miles: 17
I plan to add one more running day this week and get my long run up to 10 miles this weekend, YIKES!! My calves and posterior tibialis muscle on my right leg still ache a bit, so I've been focusing on stretching & strengthening exercises, using my foam roller after every run, and icing my legs after longer runs. I've also used the KT tape a few times. Yesterday, I soaked my legs in the tub with epsom salt for 20 minutes and wow did it help! I'd love to hear how your running is coming along and if you're training for any races! How do you deal with aches and pains?
