Week 7 Half Marathon Training | Recap

I hope you all had a fab weekend!  Mine was pretty good.  I got to hang out with some awesome photographer friends for dinner on Friday.  Aside from stealing a few of Jason's french fries, my meal of pan seared scallops & steam veggies was pretty Paleo-friendly.  Saturday night we hung out with some more friends and I'll admit my dinner was not paleo one bit and I didn't feel bad about it.  It's part of living life.  Besides, I ran 7 miles that day!  Sunday we cleaned up around the house, got the kids to clean their rooms, and then we went to a festival where the kids enjoyed the carnival rides, games, and monster sno cones!  They were happy and so were we :) 

Here's the training recap for week 7 (it's not my best week!) :

Monday: Rest & Stretch!  I am still loving my foam roller :)

Tuesday: Strength Training 1 hr. with personal trainer & 2 miles on the treadmill

Wednesday:  3 miles on the treadmill + some ab work

Thursday:  Strength Training 45min. with personal trainer & 1 mile on the treadmill. 

Friday: Unscheduled rest day.  Some days things just don't go as planned....

Saturday: 7 mile morning outside run.  There was not a cloud in the sky and it was already pretty warm by 8:30am when I started my run.  It was not as hard as I thought it would be, but still tough and I never really felt like I got into a good running groove.  I think it was mostly because of the heat.  Even with sunscreen, I ended up 2 shades browner! I also tried out the Clif Shock Blocs  during this run and I did not like them at all!  Chewing & running require too much coordination for me, so I had to stop to eat them and they took forever to chew! They also left me with a weird taste in my mouth even after drinking water. Plus, I never felt the "energy" kick in.  I think I will be sticking to the gels and so far, the Honey Stingers are my favorite.  

Sunday: Another rest day! Yup, 3 rest days in one week.  I'm not thrilled about it, but there was no way I could run after the 7 miles on Saturday.  Having that unscheduled rest day on Friday really threw me off this week.

TOTAL MILES RAN: 13 miles

Today I woke up ready to hit the gym and get my week off to a good start, but my son had other plans.  The poor kid woke up with a horrible cough & sore throat! You know that nasty cough that just sounds like it's ripping your throat...needless to say, we didn't send him to school today, which means I won't be making it to the gym.  All is not lost as I WILL be getting my scheduled 4 mile run today at some point this evening.  I'm not a huge fan of running in the evenings but 1. the sun shouldn't burn me 2. I can use it as practice since the Rock N Roll Half Marathon is at night!  What a way to turn a bad situation into a positive one, go me! This rarely happens.  I'd usually just throw in the towel and grab some Doritos :)  Here's to change and becoming positive! xo
