If you follow me on facebook you've maybe seen a few shared posts about Ned the Phone Monster. Who's NED and Why do we need him? Jenny & Josh, our awesome friends behind The Happy Family Movement, are also the founders of Phone Monsters, Inc. and they have a mission is to improve family life by creating products that help foster strong family connections. They created NED (No Electronic Distractions) as a visual reminder of being present in our lives rather than buried in our smart phones. Their mission is not to eliminate smart phones (What would I do without my Iphone?!!?) But rather to put them in their place, sort of speak. NED is a visual reminder that we need to unplug and spend time with those we love, our family, our friends, those who are with us at that moment. That's how memories are made.
I know I have been guilty of not being present on more occasions than I'd like to admit. I love spending time with my family, but sometimes just having my phone at arms' reach is distracting. I'll hear it vibrate and I'll know I got a new facebook notification or a new email, so I go to check it really quickly and somehow I get sucked in and I'm replying to messages, checking instagram, or taking my turn in Words with Friends, and BOOM I'm no longer fully present. Raise your hand if you've been there too! Then, you start feeling guilty and guilt is not a good feeling or you make excuses, justifications, but you know deep down that it's not true. You didn't have to check that email asap or update your facebook status at that very moment. Yup, we've all been there and it's time to make an intentional change. That's where NED comes in. He's a landing place for your phone(s). A visual reminder to put down your phone and enjoy life undistracted!
NED needs a little help getting started and we can help! Check out the kickstarter campaign and learn more the evolution of NED, how it works, and the production timeline. You can pledge as little as $1 and for a pledge of just $32 you can get your very own NED (estimated delivery Feb 2015) and The Happy Family Movement's Indoor and Outdoor Adventure Combo E-books! We have these and they ROCK! They're full of fun ideas, printables, and tips for having family fun! They're great when kids are bored or we just can't think of something fun to do! If you are feeling extra generous or the idea really resonates with you, there are larger pledge amounts that are full of more fun goodies such as art prints, note cards, family portraits, and more! So, go check it out and take the first steps to unplugging and getting your life back!
